This rare and early Mk2 Escort is a real find, especially given the fact it has only 2 previous owners from new, is in Ghia spec, and comes from long family term ownership.

The Escort itself appears to be in original factory specification, aside from an aftermarket pop up sunroof and wheels, although the original wheels are included.

The Ghia designation was the top of the tree in terms of specification for any Ford in the day, and this Escort is no exception. The additional brightwork and square headlamps, front and rear bumper overriders plus vinyl roof really set this example apart from the more mundane Escorts of the period, and the interior is plush and welcoming, with plenty of chrome accents and wood effect finishes.

The exterior condition is good overall, with minimal corrosion and marks. Given the fact that the Escort was Ziebarted when new, we think this has certainly contributed towards the condition. It’s amazing to think that this example is now 50 years old! It should be noted that there are some minor scuffs in the front bumper corners and some paint reaction / corrosion on the top of the near side front wing. The wheels fitted have black centres and the requisite Ghia chrome embellishers fitted - a nice touch. They are shod in matching Michelin tyres.

The interior is clean and tidy, with a few marks as to be expected given the age. The cigarette lighter is missing.

Under the bonnet, everything appears as it should - likewise in the boot.

In addition to the aforementioned original wheels, it also comes with a box of spares plus a petrol can.

It appears that the Ford may have been off the road during the early 2000s and the 2010s - and this has contributed to the low mileage recorded of a shade over 60,000 miles which is believed to be correct.

Paperwork is more than satisfactory in that in addition to the initial purchase invoice from April 1976 showing a purchase price of £2,262.64, we have a second sales invoice for £1,170 when it was sold in 1993 to the father of the present owner. We have some previous MOT certificates plus a sheaf of invoices dating back to the 1990s for work undertaken over the years, including the recommissioning work undertaken in in 2024 at a cost of £5,000.

The recommissioning work appears to be particularly comprehensive, the majority of which was on the underside with work to the suspension, struts, brakes, wheel bearings, steering bushes plus the fitting of new fuel lines. In addition, some welding was undertaken and extra under body protection was also applied. A new petrol tank was fitted a month after the main recommissioning.

Overall, a clean, tidy and super useable example which has the benefit of being both low owners and having a low indicated mileage for the year.
