We are delighted to offer this impressive 1983 Ford Escort RS1600i, one of the most significant performance variants of the Mk3 Escort and a true homologation special developed by Ford Motor Company for Group A touring car racing.

Produced in relatively limited numbers during the early 1980s, the RS1600i featured a specially developed 1.6-litre fuel injected engine producing around 115bhp, along with revised suspension geometry and distinctive styling. The model is instantly recognisable thanks to its Silver RS1600i livery, aerodynamic body kit and purposeful stance.

This example is finished in black with its original grey cloth Recaro interior, a classic and highly desirable combination. The RS displays 74,275 miles and presents very well, having been professionally restored while carefully retaining its originality.

The history file is particularly impressive, being supplied with a Ford Cars leather document wallet containing the original book pack, including the stamped service book, along with a large collection of historic MOT certificates, tax discs and invoices documenting its life.

Further enhancing its authenticity, it retains its original supplying dealer number plates and window stickers from A. Gray & Co. Ltd, Ford Main Dealer of Woodbridge Meadows, Guildford, Surrey, a wonderful period detail that collectors appreciate.

“After purchasing the vehicle in April 2025 with a recorded mileage of 74,275 miles, the owner commissioned a full repaint while preserving the car’s originality as much as possible. The vehicle was stripped extensively, including the removal of the doors, bonnet, tailgate, glass and associated fittings before being refinished in correct direct gloss paint, with panel backs and door shuts painted to the same standard.

During inspection, both rear wheel arches were professionally replaced, and part of the offside sill was renewed due to a historic repair. The owner noted how remarkably original and well preserved the car appeared once dismantled, suggesting it had never previously been taken apart.

Importantly, all mechanical components remain the original factory items, which is increasingly rare to find today. Following reassembly, all five wheels were refurbished and fitted with new tyres, and the car received a comprehensive service including cambelt, water pump and renewal of all fluids and oils.

Both the online and paper MOT history indicate that the car has never suffered from significant rust issues, which was a key factor in the owner’s decision to purchase the vehicle. This is therefore not simply a cosmetically improved car, but a genuine and well preserved RS1600i.”
