In designing the track-only GT MK II, Ford Performance and Multimatic took every hard-earned lesson from the FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA campaigns and threw out the rulebook. Since it didn't have to play by the restrictive ''Balance of Performance'' regulations of any racing series, the engineers were free to push the platform to its absolute limit, resulting in a machine that is actually faster around a circuit than the professional racecars that preceded it. With a production run limited to just 45 units and an original price tag of $1.2 million, the GT MK II was the purest, most unfiltered expression of Ford's modern racing legacy to date.As described by Ford's Chief Product Development and Purchasing Officer, Hau Thai-Tang, the Ford GT MK II, “unleashes the GT's full performance potential without any artificial performance limitations dictated by racing sanctioning bodies... It's the closest GT owners can get to the Le Mans-winning performance and exhilarating feeling of crossing the finish line in the Ford GT race car.” This GT MK II, the first production example, is sure to remain a hallowed entry in Ford's performance pedigree.Surrounded by the carbon fiber tub is a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine that has been turned up to 11. Without air restrictors holding it back, it's been tuned to 700 horsepower, which is 53 more than the road car and nearly 200 more than the restricted Le Mans racecar. To keep that power consistent during long track sessions, Ford added a roof-mounted intake scoop that feeds a high-capacity air cooler featuring a water sprayer system. This setup automatically triggers to mist the intercooler, slashing intake temperatures in a way that's very similar to the Porsche 911 GT2 RS. All 700 horsepower are sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed Getrag dual-clutch transaxle with modified internals, while the 19-inch Forgeline alloy wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport GT racing slicks.The most aggressive visual change is the massive dual-element fixed rear wing, which ditches the road car's heavy active aero for pure, unadulterated downforce. When paired with the new front splitter, aggressive dive planes, and an oversized carbon fiber rear diffuser, the GT MK II generates 400% more downforce than the standard Ford GT. The suspension has been completely overhauled for the track and by removing the adjustable ride height system and street-spec drive modes, Ford shaved over 200 pounds off the car. It now utilizes 5-way adjustable Multimatic DSSV dampers set to a fixed racing height, allowing the car to pull over 2 gs of lateral acceleration. Massive Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes provide the stopping power, measuring 15.5 inches in the front and 14.1 inches in the rear.The interior is a no-nonsense command center designed for data and safety. The driver is held in place by a fixed Sparco racing seat and a six-point harness, facing a rectangular racing steering wheel flanked by a MoTeC data acquisition system that provides real-time telemetry and a display for the rear-view camera. While a passenger seat is an available option, the cabin is mostly dominated by a full FIA-compliant roll cage and an integrated fire-suppression system. The Ford GT MK II represents what engineers and designers can achieve when the rule book is thrown to the wayside and channeling the authentic performance of the Ford GT name.
